Leaving her five children in Costa Rica, Eunice White immigrated to the United States and moved to New Hampshire to work as a domestic worker in 1966. She eventually moved from New Hampshire to Brooklyn, NY and secured an apartment and a job at a hospital. She worked tirelessly to get the money she needed to bring her children to the United States. Three years later, in December 1969, she made that dream a reality and her five children, along with her two grandchildren emigrated from Costa Rica - all as legal permanent residents.
One of those five children was Attorney Shirley White-Edwards. She remembers the help that her family received so that they all could come to the United States. Only 14 years old at the time, she remembers the assistance her family received that ranged from taking them to doctor’s appointments so that there would be a translator to getting the family the proper paperwork to fly from Costa Rica to New York. Attorney White-Edwards wants help other families navigate the intimidating task of immigrating to the United States.
